My name is Joana Schertel and I´m Ms Joanabanana!
I´m a pedagogue graduated from PUCRS with a Degree in Early Childhood and Primary Years Education, with a license to teach.
I´m very happy to share with you all my knowledge in the field of education, acquired through a lot of studying, reading, traveling and through my, over, 18 years of experience teaching children in English, in Brazil and abroad!
A large part of my professional experience was at Pan AmericanThe International School of Porto Alegre, where I taught, and learned a lot, for over 12 years!
I'm married to Filipe and we have a wonderful 5 years old daughter. She is my inspiration and the light of my life!
After teaching and learning, traveling and experiencing new cultures are my passions.
I can say that I've had a fair share of adventures around the world. I lived for 3 years in Spain, 8 months in Ireland, 6 months in England and 3 years in the United States.The most amazing experience was working twice for Walt Disney Co. in Florida!
I'm sure we're about to embark on a new adventure of learning and fun.

The Course
Our course already have more than 200 recorded classes in the platform.
In addition to recorded lessons, we have more than 30 workbooks divided into the modules.
As a bonus, we offer 1 online class per week, via YouTube, every Tuesday at 6:45 pm Brasília time. In this Live session, a part from learning and practising English, you are going to be able to ask questions related to the course and the class itself! This is all made through the Youtube chat.
In our course you will have 5 years access to the recorded classes available in our platform, and 3 years of YouTube live classes. Doing the math, In these 3 years it will be, more or less, 135 live classes! Amazing, right?
Joanabanana English Course is a child's-themed English course aimed at children from 4 to 10 years old. It will definitely teach parents, grandparents, uncles and caregivers who are young at heart too!
Our course uses, among others, the methodology of immersion in the English language. Therefore, all classes are 100% in English. In this way, children is not only learning the language, but are also developing many other important skills. To mention a few: language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), math skills, fine motor skills, creativity, logical reasoning and visual perception. All this through music, stories, games, art activities, cooking, science experiments and much more!

The Alphabet
In this module we will discover the letters of the alphabet. We will learn to identify, name, distinguish and write them in their upper and lower case forms, as well as identify their sounds. Always through various activities, such as: music, stories, arts, games, among others.
Module 3
The Numbers
In this module we will discover the numbers from 1 to 10. We will learn to identify, name, distinguish and write the numbers. We will also work with numerical representation and counting, through various activities, such as: music, stories, games, among others.
Module 4
The Colors
In this module we will discover the colors. We will learn to name, identify, distinguish, create and use different colors, through various activities, such as: music, stories, arts, experiments, games, among others.
Module 5
The Shapes
In this module we will explore geometric shapes and their characteristics. We will learn to name, identify, classify, distinguish and build different shapes in 2D and 3D, through various activities, such as: music, stories, art, games, among others.
Module 6
Animals and Foods
In this module we will discover and get to know animals and food. We will learn to name, identify, distinguish, classify, and use the vocabulary related to them, through various activities, such as: music, stories, arts, games, among others.
Module 7
Calendar and Actions
In this module we will discover the calendar and some words that indicate action. We will learn the days of the week, months and seasons of the year, and also how to identify and use action words, through various activities, such as: music, stories, arts, games, among others.
Module 8
At Home & At School
In this module we will discover the objects and situations we may encounter at school and at home. We will learn a lot of vocabulary, expressions and commands. As well as, to identify, name and classify objects through various activities, such as: music, stories, art, games, among others.
Module 9
Transportation & Professions
In this module we will discover the importance of means of transport and some professions. We will learn to identify, classify, distinguish and use vocabulary related to them. Always through various activities, such as: music, stories, arts, games, among others.
Module 10
Live Classes (Recorded)
In this module you will find our recorded weekly Lives in Youtube. This is extremely important as not all students can participate on the appointed day and time. If your children, for some reason, have to be absent from a Live class, they will be able to watch it on another day and at another time, whichever is more convenient for your family.

All About Me
In this module we will explore aspects, characteristics, situations, questions, expressions and vocabulary that directly relate to our lives. We will learn about our families, friends and personal preferences. Always through various activities, such as: music, stories, arts, games, among others.

In this module we will emphasize the acquisition of basic skills in the reading and writing process. In this module we will discover and explore the different ways we use to express our ideas, emotions, opinions, experiences and needs. In this module we will discover and work with Sight Words! These are the words that are most commonly used in the English language and that often do not follow phonetic rules. Students will be encouraged to memorize the words as a whole, so they can recognize them automatically, without having to use any decoding strategy, facilitating the beginning of the reading and writing process.

Cooking
In this module we will discover and work with a wide range of vocabulary while cooking and having fun. Students will be encouraged to invite their parents to learn how to cook using English recipes.

Common questions
If my child is younger than 4 years old or older than 10 years old, is the course good for him as well?
Our course can teach all ages. Why do we suggest it for kids from 4 to 10 year old? First, because It is not recommended that children under 4 years old to have a lot of exposure to screens and, secondly, as our course has a child's theme, children over 10 years old might think is too childish for them.
To whom the course is not recommended?
For those who already speak fluent English.
My child can not read and write yet. Do you think learning 2 languages at the same time can get in the way of his/hers literacy process?
Quite the opposite! Learning 2 languages at the same time helps with the brain development. It's really good!
How soon will my child speak English?
It all depends: on the child's interest, on how much he/she dedicates them selves to the course, if he/she does the exercises, how many times he/she watches the classes, if he/she attends to our live classes, and if he/she practices with friends and family. A committed student learns to speak English in 1 year!
